Blackout day
There was a Facebook post today about all dancers having a blackout day to show solidarity with the protesters of Black Lives Matter. We at DMC taught our class tonight, not because we were protesting the protest, but because that’s what we do. That sounds pretty lame….. but sharing my love of the arts, and maybe giving people a moment of peace in this crazy time is the best that I can do. How can denying that help anyone?
I hear you, I am mortified, and I stand with you. But as the movement has escalated I feel as though we are being pulled from all sides. Political agendas pop up and make wild statements, or over sympathetic bluster, and I do not feel truth. Where to turn…Who to believe….. I have to turn inward, and hear my own heart.
I don’t know what to do except to continue moving forward, constantly examining my motivations, being a loving person, and voting my conscience. I don’t know if that is enough, but I am open to learning.
